The length of your program depends on a variety of factors. It depends from school to school and from instructor to instructor how long it will take for them to complete their 200-hour certification process. However, on average, 2 to 3 months are required to complete a 200-hour course. How long does it take to become a certified yoga teacher? Today, the average training program will last three to five months.

Some courses are basic (200-hour level) and others are designed to take advantage of the fundamental knowledge absorbed in the original 200-hour course. This is a 200-hour course designed for yoga practitioners to become instructors. They learn the history of yoga, philosophy, poses, sequencing, anatomy, and commercial and marketing tools for the workforce. A 200-hour course is the perfect way to take seriously your yoga teacher certification goals and determine what types of materials and teachings would be best for your own class.

Online training usually provides all the content in advance and then allows you to complete it at your own pace, as long as you complete it before a certain date. Instead of taking a 200-hour basic course, you could take a shorter specialized course or a refresher course for experienced teachers. To maintain registration in Yoga Alliance, teachers must complete Continuing Education (CE) credits and teaching hours. Many yoga teachers in training find it transformative to fully immerse themselves in training by staying in residence.

Once you have completed your training and obtained your certification, you will have the right to place the initials CYT (certified yoga teacher) after your name to indicate your certification. The 500-hour certification is also very important if you hope to open your own yoga center one day. Completing your yoga teacher training online also offers the added benefits of virtual learning materials (i.e., with this option, many teachers choose to complete shorter continuing education courses, dives, or tutoring between their 200-hour and 300-hour trainings while striving to keep up to date and meet YA membership requirements). Most of the time, teachers who have completed the 200-hour certification will continue their studies.

Not all of these items are necessary; as long as you have stretchy, breathable clothing, a mat and blocks, I'd say you're more than prepared for a 200-hour yoga teacher training program. Organizing and planning your yoga schedule and seeing how it adapts to other aspects of your life (depending on the time) will make it easier to see how much time you have to realistically dedicate to re-enrolling in school. However, enrolling in a 200-hour YTT will provide you with the educational aspects that will help you develop classes and deepen your understanding of the history of yoga. You then have the option to continue (at some point) with a 300-hour training, which, in combination with the 200-hour training, is equivalent to the RYT-500 certification.

To obtain the RYT degree, one must complete yoga teacher training that has been accredited by the Yoga Alliance. As an RYT, you can also obtain the E-RYT 200 or E-RYT 500 degree by recording the teaching hours completed since you completed the corresponding certified training for YA.
